TOPINKA RECOGNIZES HONOR FLIGHT HUBS

Comptroller salutes commitment to remembering veterans

SPRINGFIELD – Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka recently saluted Honor Flight Hubs from across the state for their work to honor veterans through trips to the national war memorials in Washington D.C., and thanked local representatives for making the tributes possible.

As part of the Illinois Office of the Comptroller’s “Veteran’s Day” at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Topinka presented Honor Flight leaders from throughout the state with proclamations celebrating their achievements and continuing dedication. Topinka specifically congratulated the Central Illinois Honor Flight (Effingham), Great River Honor Flight (Quincy), Honor Flight Quad Cities (Davenport, IA), Land of Lincoln Honor Flight (Springfield), and McHenry Honor Flight Hub (Fox River Grove).

“I am proud to have the Honor Flight Hubs in Illinois, making it possible for veterans to visit and reflect at our national memorials in Washington D.C.,” Topinka said. “These trips are a perfect way to honor the sacrifice of our service men and women, and are a fitting thank you for all they have done for our country.”

The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. Priority is given to the senior veterans; World War II survivors, along with other veterans who may be terminally ill. In 2010 alone, the Honor Flight network transported more than 63,000 veterans to Washington D.C.
