TOPINKA RECOGNIZES GUARD, RESERVE
Comptroller signs ESGR Statement of Support
CHICAGO – Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka publicly recognized the important role of the National Guard and Reserve recently by signing a Statement of Support from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The signing ceremony took place at the offices of the State Comptroller in the James R. Thompson Center.
“I want to thank Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka for taking this opportunity to sign a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve,” said Maj. Gen. William Enyart, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard. “The continuing support of employers and public organizations is critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the National Guard and Reserve.”
By signing a Statement of Support, the Illinois Office of the Comptroller officially recognizes the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act, and ensures that managers and supervisors have the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
“This was an easy decision,” Topinka said. “As a mother of a Major in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, I understand the importance to doing what you can to prevent potential conflicts that may arise from an employee's military commitment.”
Established in 1972, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency which promotes cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers.
