Filing Requirements
Who is required to file an Annual Financial Report [AFR]?
All corporate body politics/units of local governments except:
- Districts filing detailed annual financial data with other governmental entities [i.e. Drainage Districts, Public School Districts, and Public Housing Authorities] are only required to register with our office.
- Governments that appropriate less than $6160 for FY 2007, $6005 for FY 2006, $5800 for FY 2005, $5625 for FY 2004, $5520 for FY 2003, $5475 for FY 2002, $5400 for FY 2001, and $5217 for FY 2000*
Who is required to file an annual audit?
- Counties with a population between 10,000 and 500,000
- Municipalities with bonded debt or a population over 800 or owning and operating a public utility
- Special Purpose Governments:
Beginning FY 2003 - Total revenue over $850,000
FY 2002 and earlier - An appropriation over $200,000
- Townships Governments:
Beginning FY 2003 - Total revenue for Township or for Road & Bridge over $850,000
FY 2002 and earlier - An appropriation for Township or for Road & Bridge over $200,000
*Governments with an appropriation less than the required amounts above must file a Verification of Appropriation Form in place of their Annual Financial Report.
