Red Door Animal Shelter

Red Door Animal Shelter

Every year, Red Door rescues and finds homes for hundreds of abused and abandoned animals. Red Door is a 501(c)(3) organization. We receive no federal, state, county or city money. We are funded by private donations and grants from private foundations.

Red Door was founded in 1998, under the name Chicago Community Humane Center. In January 2000, an adoption center was opened on the far north side of Chicago, in the West Ridge/Rogers Park neighborhood. In June 2002, the shelter's name was officially changed to Red Door Animal Shelter to better reflect the vision of the organization. In February 2003, Red Door expanded its adoption center.

Keller
Keller

Who has a big white fuzzy tail knows how to live life to the fullest…this guy! Although Keller is blind and can become frightened at times, he possesses an insatiable hunger for love. Once you begin to pet him, neither one of you will want to stop. This tender darling needs someone who will afford him the special attention he requires. Help Keller conquer his fear of the unknown by offering him a world of bunny massages and never-ending kisses; you’ll be glad you did.

Pierre
Pierre

Pierre is a sweetheart who enjoys all the warmth and affection he can get his cute little paws on. He has an uncanny ability to charm volunteers into giving him kisses and massages (which never seem go on long enough for the little guy). Perhaps it’s his panda complexion, or his doe-eyed glances, either way Pierre is a package deal that will undoubtedly find a way into your heart given the chance; we know he’s found a way into ours.

Charlemagne
Charlemagne

Charlemagne is as independent as he is handsome. He is slightly crossed eyed, but that doesn't stop him from keeping an eye on everything that goes on at the shelter. Unfortunately, the stress of the shelter life does get him down sometimes. He has asthma and has to be nebulized once a week. The shelter will provide his adopters with a nebulizer and instructions on his care. Hopefully in a quiet, loving home, his stress will lessen and his asthma will improve.

Gavin
Gavin

Gavin has been hurt and it shows. He was found abandoned like trash by the shelter garbage can. He was so traumatized that he stopped eating and almost died. We were able to meet his physical needs, but his emotional scars run deep. Gavin is easily stressed and often unpredictable. Because of his sometimes volatile nature, he needs a home with an experienced cat person without children or other animals. We hope in the right home he will finally heal.

Kiki
Kiki

Kiki is a very sweet and gentle kind of girl. She's very easy going and is perfectly content to hang out by herself, but she also loves to get some petting, scratching, and cuddling time with you as well. Kiki was most likely dumped outside from someone who didn't want her anymore. Eventually she was taken in by a kind soul and placed with Red Door to try and find her a new loving home.
