Beginning in June, PCAPS (Peoria County Animal Protection Services) will offer 30 days of free pet health insurance on all animals adopted from the shelter.  Adopters can elect to activate this insurance which is designed to help address any new health or medical problems the pet develops in those critical first 30 days.

The current adoption fee of $100 for dogs and $75 for cats includes this added benefit.  Even pets adopted at the reduced rates of $25 (dogs) and $10 (cats) will receive the option of the free health care.  New owners can take their pet to their own veterinarian and be reimbursed the cost of any necessary medical treatment less a $50 deductible.  Adopters can elect to continue the coverage at their own expense at the end of the 30 day period.  Pre-existing conditions and routine vaccines are not covered under this program.
