PAWS Chicago
PAWS Chicago is Chicagoland's largest No Kill, humane organization, focused on transforming the old "cage and kill" method of sheltering to a model that guarantees life to homeless pets. PAWS Chicago receives no city, state or federal funding and is reliant on donations from the public. The organization has consistently been awarded four stars (the highest rating) by Charity Navigator, the nation's largest independent charity evaluator, for responsible use of donor funds.
In 2010, PAWS found homes for more than 4,000 homeless dogs and cats, performed more than 17,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for pets of low-income families and educated tens of thousands of residents in Chicago’s most under-resourced communities. Since PAWS Chicago’s founding in 1997, the number of animals killed per year in the city has dropped from 42,000 to less than 18,000, demonstrating that the goal of a No Kill Chicago is well within reach.
