Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus

Illinois Doberman Rescue operates as a not-for-profit organization based in Northern Illinois. The goal of Doberman Rescue is to rescue Dobermans in need, to place them into responsible homes, and to educate the public about the Doberman breed. Our Rescue Dobermans come from animal control organizations, humane societies, and owner give-up situations within Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana.

After entering the program, our Dobermans are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested (and given monthly heartworm preventative), and microchipped (a computer microchip placed in the dog’s lower neck for help with identification should the animal ever become lost). While awaiting adoption, most of our Dobermans live in foster homes throughout Illinois where we attempt to evaluate their temperaments, learn their behavioral quirks, and work on basic manners and obedience.

We endeavor to place each Doberman into a home best suited for that individual dog. Some factors we take into account include the dog’s reaction to children, other dogs, and cats. We carefully screen all applicants since we want to ensure that each adoption is a good match and provides a permanent home for the dog. We maintain contact with our adoptive families and encourage them to contact us in case of any questions or problems.

Danny
Danny

Danny is a very good boy, but a teenager with a teenager’s energy. He was adopted out through IDR in the summer of 2010 at 6 months old and returned because there were some conflicts between him and the other alpha dog in the home.  He is crate trained, knows the basic commands and attended an obedience class with his former family, but we are suggesting he attend another with his new family, as we do most of our orphans.

Miss Angel
Miss Angel

Miss Angel must be on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List with the way she refuses to be photographed.  It doesn’t matter where she is or what she’s doing, even if you slowly get a camera anywhere near her, she turns her head or heads off in the bedroom.  But you can take our word that, once she feels safe and gets to know you, she is as cute on the inside as she is on the outside. Angel was given up because her older owners were no longer able to care for her.

Ruthie
Ruthie

Were you the one that was always picked last for kickball? Were you the girl that was not asked to the Prom? Well then you understand how poor Ruthie feels. She has been with IDR+ for about 10 months and she still has not found a home. So she is not the most attractive of Dobermans with her balding fawn coat, bigger boned body and longer docked tail but she has the best personality. She deserves a home just like the beautiful cropped ones do.

Schultzie
Schultzie

Poor Schultzie was given up because a child in the family was diagnosed with a fatal disease. So sad for everyone. Understandably, Schultzie probably didn’t receive much attention prior to being surrendered as he has very few manners. As a result, Schultzie acts exactly like your typical 18 month old Doberman; short attention span, very active requiring lots of exercise, but doesn’t know how to properly vent all that energy.

Vern
Vern

Vern was picked up as a stray and smelling of sewage. The first thing we did for this guy was give him a much needed bath. He appears to have a thick almost wooly coat which is probably from living outdoors his whole life (especially by the giant leather belt collar he had around his neck).  Poor guy! He is so happy getting to live inside on a comfy dog bed.

Victoria
Victoria

Are you that special person who will open your heart to a very special girl? Victoria is such a sweet girl and is absolutely adorable. She is housebroken, has the run of the house and will stay behind a baby gate. She knows the basic sit, down and stay commands and will sit while waiting for her food and when putting on her harness. She just wants to please and follows her special person everywhere. Victoria has wobblers but that doesn’t stop her from having a good time.
