Champaign County Humane Society
The Champaign County Humane Society was established as a branch of the Illinois Humane Society in 1889 and chartered as the Champaign County Humane Society in 1903. Those early years were focused on the protection of animals and children. In 1951, a diverse group of local citizens who cared deeply about animals gathered together to establish our first animal shelter near Bondville, Illinois, and in June of 1988 we moved into our current shelter in Urbana.
Our name reflects our geographic location only. We are not a government body and we are not supported by tax dollars. We are not affiliated with any national organization. We do not receive funds from the United Way. We are an "open door" shelter and accept all animals needing shelter, regardless of age, physical condition or adoptability. As a local, not-for-profit charity, we exist through the generosity of many individuals and businesses and are supported by a community that cares.

Abbey is a 9 year old spayed female. She is a stunning dilute calico. She was brought to CCHS because her former owner could not afford to keep her. She’s very gentle and good with other cats, dogs, and children. She loves attention and enjoys playing with string toys.

Buddy is a 9 year old neutered male black and white cat. He is a very affectionate lap cat who is looking for a quiet home. He came to CCHS because his previous owners could not take him with when they moved. Buddy gets along wonderfully with other cats. Marmalade is a 10 month old spayed female. She is an orange tabby cat and slightly on the smaller side. Orange tabby cats are more often male than female, so that makes her coloring even more unique. She was a stray and was rescued by a nice family.

Bailey is a 7 year old spayed female Chocolate Lab mix. She is as sweet as can be. She loves everyone she meets - men, women, and children of all ages. She loves other dogs but does not get along well with cats. She is housetrained and walks well on a leash. Bailey is a staff favorite and even gets to hang out behind the front desk sometimes! D-Bo is a handsome one year old neutered male Doberman pinscher mix. He is a friendly boy who is good with other dogs, cats, and children of all ages. He takes treats gently and will occasionally jump up for a hug. D-Bo loves car rides and he would be a great traveler. He walks very nicely on a leash. Harley is a 1 year old neutered male German Shepard and Pit Bull terrier mix. He is a big boy but is sweet as can be. He is an active dog who would enjoy an active home that can provide him with the exercise he needs. Harley is good with older children, men, and women.
